On Sunday afternoon we headed to Mount Vernon, Gen. George Washington's estate. (It was interesting that on his tomb he was listed as Gen. not President.) It's one of the places we have been wanting to see. It's a beautiful estate right along the Potomac River. Very nice views of the river from the back of the house. Apparently Gen. George inherited a house on this land that was about 1/3 the size of the house standing there now. The kitchen garden was beautiful. It would be awesome to have a garden like that! There are animals, fields, gardens, even Necessaries (these are basically outhouses, but very uncommon for their time - Gen. George wanted to centralize the human waste, good thinking!). Anyway, we spent a couple of hours there. We definitely had more to see, but it was a good visit.
Waiting in line for the mansion tour in the breezeway from the servant house - Lexi still likes her feet.
The Mount Vernon mansion.
Part of the kitchen garden - it's gorgeous! And they have minature fruit trees trained to grow kind of like grape vines. We saw broccoli, artichokes, cherries, apples, pears, rosemary, lettuce, leeks, and of course much more. I think some of you out there might like to see more of - or to have - this garden!
Sweaty head shows off her hair! It was humid so we took her hat off for a bit.
A view on our way back from visiting the slave memorial and Gen. George's tomb.

I saw all of this on the UN Trip junior year. Did you ever go on that trip?
Great pictures! Do you snag someone to take your picture when you're out and about or do you take it yourself?
No, didn't go on the UN trip because I went to NYC with choir. Had to make a choice!
We always snag a kind strange to take the photo. I always nervously approach, but they are always kind - sometimes nervous - and willing. It's funny how couples will pass it off between each other "Oh I think you should do that honey. ha haha" says random lady I asked. :)
