Memorial Day weekend

We had a great weekend. Perfect timing after David's week away at supervisory school. On Saturday we got a surprise phone call from one of David's friends from college. He and his wife ended up here on a couple day lay over on a trip they are taking. So we had surprise visitors. It was fun to have them and to meet Andy's wife, Rossella. Anyway, they did there own thing during the days, but we had dinner with them Saturday and Sunday, spending the evenings with them. Didn't get any pictures though :(.

On Sunday we went to a park for about 45 minutes just to sit around outside. Lexi was having fun holding Oatios, trying to feed them to herself, successfully biting them in half and then having the other half in her hand. It was so funny - she wasn't sure how to let go of that other half in her mouth.

On Monday we decided we wanted to do something that had to do with the real reason for Memorial Day. We found out there was a Memorial Day parade in D.C. down Constitution Avenue. How cool. So we drove to the Metro station and rode that in to the city. We thought we left in time to get to the parade on time, but with the stroller we ended up riding three elevators to change trains. So we got there about 20 minutes late. Which means we missed the Marine Corps Band AND Gary Sinise. Bummer. But it was a nice parade and we found a spot in the shade. Major bonus on an sunny, humid, upper 80s day. As the parade was winding down we found ourselves in front of the National Archives with a baby asleep in the stroller. The line wasn't too long so we headed inside to see the three "Charters of Freedom." David saw them years ago and it was my first viewing. We couldn't believe how faded the "Declaration of Independence" was. We could barely read any of the original!

After the parade we took a stroll near the Smithsonians before heading back to the Metro. They had some pretty flowers. A perfect photo op!

Hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend and took some time to remember the sacrifices that have been made for our freedom.
