Friday night at the piano bar.
Then on Saturday we took it easy. We had late breakfast at the hotel. We took a nap! Then we went to the Baltimore Museum of Art for about 2.5 hours. It was great - we saw some Andy Warhol, a couple Monet, some tile floor mosaics found in Turkey, this sculpture of a little girl ballerina that is metal but has a fabric tutu and real ribbon in her hair (we saw this in a gallery when we were in MA a few years ago - maybe it traveled?) and of course much more. I think the highlight was the famous The Thinker. In the audio tour there was a very interesting commentary by a writer. He was saying the the image of The Thinker had become kind of clique, but then when he actually saw it up close he noticed how much more to it there was than the silhouette that you see often. I think this was so true. The face is expressive and the large body is kind of twisted, uncomfortable and almost like he might lose balance on his perch. I appreciated the commentary because it's easy to glaze over on something so seemingly familiar. Hopefully the photo below illustrates some of this. We headed back to our hotel and walked to a sushi place near by for dinner - very yummy, pretty loud, lots of fun. We had some rolls and a sashimi plater sitting at the bar - we decided not to wait for a table. It was called RA - I guess they have them in a few different major cities, as well as Las Vegas. It was great to have the opportunity to be on our own. By this time, though, we both thought of heading back home instead of staying over night. We missed our little girl! We really enjoyed the time and are so thankful to my parents for coming - we know, such a sacrifice for grandparents to spend time with a grandchild!
A view from the hotel - not our room :).
A good photo of us that was blurry, so I played a bit. This is at RA. Our eyes look strange, but it's kind of cool.
Hotel lobby where the conference was held and where we stayed.
The Thinker - did you know there are 3 sizes?

That thinker guy - definitely looks pensive and deep in thought. Almost looks like they set him along one side of a hallway or something - to give him time to work out whatever it is that has him so dug into that mental state of his.
the photo of the view from the hotel... if you look just past the tent there is a lighthouse on a grassy knoll... that's where I got married! married on the knoll and partied at Pier 5 hotel!
