Get the (pea)nuts out.

I have more Labor Day weekend and this past weekend fun to blog about, but the breaking news in our house.

Lexi tested positive for a peanut allergy. Not what we wanted to hear, but now we know for sure. She has only had peanut butter 3 or 4 times and just got a rash each time. But it definitely appeared there was a connection. At her 2 year check up (26.5 pounds, 34.5 inches, by the way) I brought it up and they referred her to an allergist in town. This morning we headed in and it was confirmed. We were there for about 1.5 hours and she did great. She never got upset. So we are now the owners of an EpiPen Jr and a bottle of Benadryl syrup. We are thankful we didn't have any severe reactions and we don't anticipate that we will, but often the allergy gets worse with exposure and it sounds like it's unlikely she will grow out of it. I took the photo of her arm a little late and it's blurry, but the mark by the number 1 means she is allergic.

So she will continue eating sunflower seed nutbutter sandwiches and never go back. No tree nuts, either, at least for now (although he didn't test for that) or shell fish until 3 or 4 years old. We will be careful and start to record what she ate whenever we see any rash pop up (her skin is pretty reactive, but it usually goes away quickly) to see if there is a connection with any foods that might be processed in the same plants. For now, we won't go that far in eliminating things that she eats. We will just pray that it is never an issue and if it is we are prepared. And we are so thankful because it could be so much worse.

After the dr. at the park with friends, our happy healthy girl, giddy with joy on the swing! She thought it was hilarious when I pushed her from the back. Every time I started pushing from the front she said, "More back!" Ha!

Even though that is not the outcome you wanted at least you now know. My nephew is allergic to peanuts so if you ever have any questions or need advice let me know and I will ask her.

I glad you guys found out...I know you mentioned that she was getting some testing done. No luck with my allergies but I haven't had a rash in over a week.
