Cake building

I wanted to take my first stab and piecing together a cake this year. My mom used to do this for us growing up and it was special to have such unique cakes. Thanks to her good advice I used 2 circle pans and cut out the pieces I needed after freezing the cakes. I used paper patterns cut from 2 tracings of the cake pans.

My crumb layer of frosting - you can kind of see the seams here.

Yay! It looks like a duck. Then I was scared to do anything else to it. I was afraid I would ruin it!

The bubbles and water for the bath.

The duck cake - Lexi was so excited about her duck cake. I was so glad.

I had a lot of fun making it!

Here is a close up of the banner. It was fun to make to! I don't get to crafty regularly so I really enjoyed an excuse.

The cake was great, Kari! It was definitely one of the cutest I've seen, and it tasted great too!

Thanks for the fun pictures. I've been waiting for them. It is always fun to try to come up with something "original," and fun to see it turn out like you planned (hoped). Lots of memories of lots of cakes over the years. Would you like the Holly Hobby pan?! :)
