This bush outside our front door is blooming like crazy so on balmy afternoon last week I took a photo. There are bushes just like this all around. I don't know much about plants, so I have no idea what it is. Anyone? You can kind of see our townhouse, too. At least the door :). Also, there are these caterpillars that are all over the place. I just wonder what kind of butterfly/moth they turn into!

I think that might be an eastern tent caterpillar. Not sure what kind of moth it turns into though.
Aunt Prill might be able to ID that bush for you.
Hi Kari! I'm a silent lurker but I love checking in on your blog...Alexa is just the cutest and it's been fun watching her grow.
This is a shot in the dark but I think the plant is an "azalea" or another type of rhododendron. Azalea was my first hunch and did some internet hunting and found it's in the family of rhododendrons. The blooms didn't quite match the pictures I found for azaleas but the leaves seem too, and then there's the fact of many different varieties. Nonetheless, what a beautiful spring blessing in your front yard!!
Take care!
Renee
Thanks for the input. T - I believe you are correct. I looked on Wikipedia and the photo matched all the caterpillars outside. Today I have to be careful not to step on them there are so many! And it makes sense because we have these trees that blossomed like crazy - possibly the cherry blossom trees they like. Renee - awesome to hear from you. I think you might be right. Azalea sounds familiar. I'll have to look at the greenhouse when I go get flowers, if I ever make up my mind!
