Where was I before...?

A few days ago, Kari had been talking about a ski trip from several years ago in front of Lexi. That night, Lexi and I (Dave) were at the dinner table and Kari was in the kitchen:

L: Was I at the ski trip you were on with Mommy?

D: No, it was before you were born. It was a long time ago, before Mommy and I were even married.

L: But, (pointing to wedding pics next to dinner table) I was there when you got married.

D: No, sweetie, you weren't there. You weren't born yet.

L: But where was I before I was born?

D: Uh, that's a really good question. ... You were in our hearts because we knew we wanted to have a baby someday.

K: God knew that He was going to give you to us.

I was supposed to have more time to prep for the hard questions.
