Saturday in Sausalito & Muir Woods

So we were going to go to Yosemite this weekend, but in our typical nature we waited until the last minute (Friday night) to call place after place, looking for a room to stay in Sat. night. It's about a 4 hour drive from where we live, could be a little longer from what we have heard. So we scrapped that plan for this weekend and decided we would not get up silly early on Sat. (like would have been necessary to go to Yosemite) and would head for Sausalito, a small bay town at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge. We biked the bridge a couple weeks ago (err, David biked and Kari tandem-caboosed) and our ride ended at Sausalito, where we caught the ferry back to San Francisco. We thought it was a cute little place and wanted to be sure to go back. We ate lunch, walked up and down the downtown area looking at shops, got ice cream! and checked out the waters edge before heading to Muir Woods a few miles away. Muir Woods is part of the Golden Gate National Parks. It's a forest of coast redwood trees, also known as evergreen sequoias. It was incredible as you can tell from the few pictures below. After walking a couple of miles we headed down to Muir Beach. It was cold so after a few handfuls of pistachios we were back in the car. We headed back to Sausalito for dinner, a stroll along the boat docks and a jazz quartet at a no name bar. By 10:15 pm we were past our curfew so we headed back home (about an hour drive). It was a beautiful day and now we can add a few more sites to our visited list.
